Abstract

Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) infection is called infectious sinusitis in turkeys that is usually characterized by slow onset of respiratory rales, coughing and severe inflammation of the sinuses. A history of prolong antibiotic usage is normally presented with the case especially when the appropriate antibiotic or the right dose has not been given. The disease is of economic value due to poor response to many antibiotic therapies, commonly complicated by secondary bacteria and viruses, reduced carcass weight, condemnation of carcass during postmortem examination and costs associated with prevention and control. This case was presented following several failed attempts of antibiotic therapies by the client in adult local turkeys, bilateral sero-mucoid discharges were seen from the eyes; swollen infraorbital sinuses were also observed in the sick turkeys. On aspiration of the sinuses, sero-sanguinous fluid up to 3 ml was recovered. The case was successfully managed with parenteral tylosin administration.
